Kam's Test Zone is the personal web site and online portfolio of Fernando Kuo (better known as Kam). The site started as a testing area for my web design needs and has grown into a showcase of my work, whether it is web related or not. It severs as a place for others to get to know me (whether you're a potential employer, an acquaintance, or some stranger who shares some of my hobbies).
I believe that life is a constant process of learning. Even when
we finish graduate school and acquire a diploma, we will still learn
new things when we start our career. And when you get married and
have a family, you'll be learning more and more things. You'll never
stop learning until life is over (and some might say that we'll keep
learning even after that). But what is the best method of learning?
I believe that there's no better way of learning a subject than experimenting
and adapting the knowledge gained from these experimentations. Hence,
Kam's Test Zone should really be "Kam's Experimental Zone",
but that would have made a really long name, wouldn't it? =P
But why should anyone visit Kam's Test Zone if it's only a personal
web site? Aren't personal web sites all selfish and only a place
for the author to show off? Aren't they usually vain and without
content? Yes, but I tried to be different (there's my first experiment).
I tried not to be so selfish and show-off, but instead, I tried to
include include things that people would like to see in this site
as well. For example, there are graphics, wallpapers, and other goodies
that are available for free, and even some tutorials helping you
figure out how to make these graphics yourself. Of course, the portfolio
is still a reserved place for me to showcase my work, but that's
just because I need to have something to show my potential employers.
You understand, right?

Ok, you won't really get a grasp of what Kam's Test Zone is about
if you don't get to know me better, so here's a run down (uh oh,
do we hear signs of ego talk?) Really, aren't you at least a bit
curious to know who I am? If not, just
skip this page.
Well, first of all, I was born in February 19, 1980 (you figure
out my age, I'm lazy to write it out and have to update this page
every year). I grew up in Brazil, lived a few years in Taiwan, and
ended up living in United States, which is where I am at the moment.
My favorite subjects in school were always Arts and Mathemathics.
I always enjoyed drawing (for the ability to create) and Mathematics
(for the ability to solve problems), but not that there's anything
related between the two. The first time I got a computer, it changed
my life. Drawing slowly turned into computer graphics and logo design,
and Mathematics turned into Computer Programming. I started loving
both CG and programming, and when I finally learned how to make web
sites, I realized how I could combine both of my passions (the ability
to create and to solve problems) into one. I plan on becoming a web
developer, but there's still a lot of things I need to learn.
Another part of my life that I have explored pretty extensively
is manipulation. I believe it started back in 1993, when I was living
in Taiwan. During a class, several of my classmates were spinning
their pens between their fingers. It seemed like a trend at the time,
and I really wanted to learn it. After asking for some help, I was
able to do my first pen trick in about 20 minutes (I will later learn
that this form of art is called Pen Spinning, and will help develop
it even further). It was back at that time as well that I learned
how to juggle two balls. These were the only two manipulation arts
that I've had contact so far and I didn't pursue them aggressively
until I came back to Brazil. The thing that really got me started
seriously in manipulations was TV special featuring David Copperfield's
15 years of magic. It showed many of Copperfield's big illusions,
but what really got to me was his close-up effects. I then started
working on Card Magic, as well as reinforcing my Pen Spinning skills.
It was only when I moved to US, though, that I was really able to
find lots of information on magic, and other forms of manipulations.
Since then, I haven't stopped looking further for new forms of manipulations,
and how to incorporate them into daily life.
As a summary, here are some things that I like to do:

- Mathematics
- Computer Programming

- drawing (conventional, and CG)
